As of a year, I have certainly come to a conclusion about one thing that makes me happy, and to be specific, it is: progress. We are dynamic beings, and the fact that we evolve with time makes me wonder if animals envy us. There are so many things to be amazed by people, and the most powerful attribute is change, which makes us sumptuous.
Progress is a very gradual and small step towards the destination. For example, clearing prelims exams before mains, writing an SOP for a visa, or reading one page a day. Progress happens every day, every moment; every small step is progress. Keeping the big picture in mind, we forget to value the intricate, special moments in life.
2023 was a calm and subtle year that made me realise the journey is more important than the destination, and every step counts. Let me comprehend my twenty-twenty-three: I did set goals for the year; I did not achieve them, but we celebrated our first Christmas together as a family; I cleared all my exams; I found one good friend; I overheard my granny telling my grandpa how proud she is of me; I spent more time with my people; I saw bioluminescence for the first time; and I made peace with myself. If I had been worrying about my goals and destination, I would have never enjoyed all the little moments. If I do not understand that all this is part of the process of becoming a better human, I guess I will miss out on everything beautiful in life.
After a year, I lie staring at my window with no grudges and no regrets, forgiving everyone who has ever wronged me and feeling at peace with myself. If you ever feel lost, remember that every step counts, make sure your journey is worth the destination, and embrace the journey while it lasts. Every twig is precious for a bird, every second is valuable for a dying man; so is every little progress in life, and every little progress has made me happy.
